TRAUM and MUTEK MX come together for an intimate afternoon of sound and listening with Jacob Kirkegaard. Hosted at TRAUM as part of the MUTEK MX festival, the event features a live sound performance of Tale of the Bee.
Entry: MXN $200
Inspired by the European tradition of “telling the bees,” in which people shared important news with their hives, Tale of the Bee turns the exchange around: what might the bees have to tell us? Drawing on a 24-hour recording made inside a beehive, Kirkegaard’s work carries the hive’s sounds through vinyl and into beeswax from that same hive. At TRAUM, the work will be presented as a live sound performance, inviting close attention to the life within the hive.
Permanent Cloud draws on recordings made with sensors placed directly on servers in a German data center. The work makes audible the physical infrastructure behind the seemingly intangible cloud, where our digital memory is stored. In this live sound performance, Kirkegaard invites us to listen to the mechanical heart of our connected world. It alternates with Tale of the Bee every 30 minutes.
Jacob Kirkegaard is a sound artist whose recordings reveal environments and processes that often escape our attention. His work explores themes including Arctic ice, radioactivity and the sounds generated by the human ear, using listening to make hidden conditions perceptible.
